Bio

Michael Suchman grew up in Chappaqua, New York. His passion for photography began after he completed law school. Michael's approach to taking pictures is, to capture moments and scenes that he may never again encounter or may never again be replicated.

Michael's work initially focused on nature, but eventually he discovered a love of nighttime city photography. He enjoys going onto the streets in the early morning and using the ambient light of the city to illuminate his subjects. He explains, "The light of a city at night is amazing, adding a depth and beauty to things that would normally escape notice. At night, even graffiti scribbled on a wall can be beautiful." Today Michael's work encompasses cityscapes, landscapes, and nature shots.

Michael’s series "Fire & Ice" is a study of the use of color balance on photography. In this series he shoots the same subject three times, adjusting the white balance each time creating a base image, a hot image and a cool image. Each image, while of an identical subject, evokes a different feeling.  None of Michael’s photographs, aside from his Fire & Ice series, are altered in anyway, and are shown exactly as they were originally shot.

Michael lives in Chelsea with his husband Ethan and their two dogs, Chandler and Phoebe.

All of Michael’s photographs are for sale.  Please refer to his contact page for more information.
